Our objective when we decided to retire overseas, was to find the best country for retirement with less expensive living costs, good climate, welcoming people, and closest to the U.S. so we could visit children and relatives without a great cost. Our search ended when we visited Costa Rica and fell in love with the country and the people, and found all of the things we were searching for. Now we would like to encourage others who are searching for that same environment to consider Costa Rica. The picture is of our home in the Province of Alajuela in cool weather overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya and the Pacific Ocean.
Maybe you are searching for a similar place tucked away in the mountains of Costa Rica as ours is, where you can hear the birds sing every morning when you wake up with magnificent views all around. Whatever you are searching for in an overseas country, hot, mild, cool, or very cool climate, mountains, coastal, or other, Costa Rica has most everything desired of an overseas country. We will show you in our blog, pictures of Costa Rica and the lifestyle that you can have in retirement here.

This is a picture of Golfito bay in a recent trip we took to southern Costa Rica, and the Osa Peninsula. Golfito is a duty free port close to the Panamian border where many Costa Ricans shop for large items such as appliances, TV's, etc. it is a hot and humid area that is known for its excellent fishing inshore in the waters of the bay and offshore in the Pacific ocean. It is a great place to visit if you like the hot and humid weather and lots and lots of rain in the rainy season. There are many excellent places to choose from for retirement in Costa Rica, hot and humid, cool and breezy, or much cooler if you prefer the higher elevations.
All over the Osa Peninsula

there are Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, and beautiful bird types, different types of Monkeys, squirrels, and occasionally a cougar. There are fantastic coastal scenes along the Pacific and all types of different flora and fauna. It is a great place to visit and especially Corcovado National Park with all its bird and animal life in its unique habitation.
Coming to Costa Rica and only visiting the resort areas does not allow anyone to see the "real Costa Rica".

Not convinced yet? Costa Rica is filled with wonders such as this mountain waterfall with its pool for a cold water dip. In travelling the country you will find scenes such as this, or a volcano puffing steam out of its vent, or perhaps as in the next picture a tranquil scene on its many beaches where often you will be the only one there. Think of warm water, surfing, lying on the beach, or if you are a photographer, writer, or artist there are so many beautiful and peaceful scenes you will be amazed what it will do for you.

Many come to Costa Rica for the peaceful feeling that only comes with being close to nature. The smell of salt air, the lapping of the waves on shore, the swishing sound as the water recedes back through the sand, and the clean pure air. In the mountain areas it is just as peaceful with the beautiful old trees providing cool shade, the sound of birds everywhere, butterflies flitting around. In the following scenes we will describe what it is like to live full time in Costa Rica.

After travelling throughout Costa Rica some 6 years ago my wife Deb and I decided to purchase property in beautiful weather around 3,700 feet in elevation for our home with a view of the ocean and surrounding mountains and valleys. We built our home and because there were no good places at the time for those coming to Costa Rica for a vacation or in search of property to purchase, we decided to build rental villas on the mountainside with the same view as our home. Over the past years we have had many guests, some returning several times. Many found their own dream property and built their retirement home near us.

This is one of our 2 bedroom, 2 bath fully furnished rental villas with internet, full laundry facilities, maid service, and many other amenities with great views of the Pacific ocean, gulf, mountains, and valleys of Costa Rica in what we believe is one of the best climates in the world averaging 74 degrees year round.
If you are coming for a vacation to our Costa Rica paradise send an email to my wife Deb at
deb@vacationvillasincostarica.com for availability, rates, and reservations. We are located approximately 45 minutes away from the airport in San Jose within 6 km or 10 minutes of the town of San Ramon de Alajuela where there are many shops, a modern mall, a hospital, and lots of other amenities.

Picture of market day in San Ramon where farmers bring in their crops each Friday and Saturday. Here you can purchase produce, dairy products, meat, cheese, flowers, and other things for a very small price. Costa Rican families who do not grow their own produce come to the market each Friday and Saturday to purchase their weeks supply of food products. Many foreign families send their maids once a week to purchase a weeks supply also. This is a great meeting place for Costa Ricans who are a very social and family oriented people.

This is a picture of the Church in San Ramon with its oxcart statue representing the people of Costa Rica. The majority of the people of Costa Rica are of the Catholic faith and many attend services on a regular basis. Although most of the people in the rural areas are people who do not have much, but they are always happy and smiling. We would very much like to invite you to come to our adopted country of Costa Rica for a vacation or to look for your dream property on which to retire to our Costa Rican paradise. In Costa Rica you can live on much less than the U.S. or Canada, with low property taxes and utility bills, and great vegetable in the markets. Send us an email and let us hear from you we are always happy to respond to all. Visit our website at
